Community is defined as a unified body of individuals with common interests. That definition describes perfectly the support that was shown on Saturday, January 12th. A group of local islanders came together to plan an event in memory of their friend, Jeffrey Quidley. The common goal behind this event was to celebrate Jeffrey and raise funds to support Jeffrey’s 3 children in their educational pursuits. That goal was met and the amount of support was overwhelming.
With over 300 people in attendance and numerous auction items, food and drink, décor, and personal time donated, the sense of community was immense. To bring that many people together in the dead of January, on Hatteras Island, is testament to the fact that Jeffrey is and always will be a part of this island community. You couldn’t ask for a better support system than Team Jeffrey.
The Ocracoke Rockers played to a packed dance floor, while taking a few breaks to announce the many auction winners. Guests had an opportunity to win items through bidding on silent auction items, live auction items, as well as a 50/50 and basket raffles. Auction items included a surfboard donated by Natural Art, Duck Hunt trips donated by T&A Guide Service and Rom Whitaker, Full Day Offshore Trip donated by Tail Gunner, a 65 Yeti Cooler donated by Kellogg Supply Company, a custom-made Sam Green Decoy, and many more generous donations. The Buxton Village Fire Department generously bid on a custom wooden American flag to hang in memory of their brother at the firehouse.
To recap this event, only one word is needed, incredible.
